No Man's Sky The Vy'keen
Honour, Sentinels, and Multi-Tools — standing with the galaxy’s warrior culture.
The Vy’keen will call you friend for shooting a Sentinel and coward for talking too long. They are the warrior culture of No Man’s Sky: visors, banners, a religion of Hirk, and a racial specialisation in Multi-Tool technology. Their stations feel like barracks. Their plaques — the Saga of the Vy’keen — remember a crusade that almost ended the machines, then watched Gek First Spawn arrogance drag Sentinels back into everyone’s problem.
This page sits beside the Korvax and Autophage entries on the factions hub. You do not have to main Vy’keen. You do have to understand them if you want armourer missions, dagger gifts, and backup when pirates land on your windshield.
Honour as a user interface
Vy’keen standing is a morality filter with a progress bar. Monoliths and facilities in their systems reward courage, directness, and respect for ancestors. They punish theft from the dead, cowardice, and the kind of mercantile hedge that makes a Gek rich. If you are coming from a morning of handing out Gek Charms, switch brains before you talk to a Vy’keen priest.
They will teach words for carbon like everyone else. Learn the combat verbs. “Destroy” is sometimes the correct dialogue option here and a disaster in a Gek archive. High standing titles climb through accomplice and ally into command ranks. Gameplay effects match the other classic races: better missions, better talk, allied starships in a pirate ambush, and a smoother Cosmos conversation if you want work in a Vy’keen-held station.
Sentinels, Hirk, and why the sky is angry
Vy’keen lore is a war memoir. Hirk’s faithful want Sentinels gone. The machines disagree. That is why Vy’keen worlds can feel hotter: more patrols, more stories about walks of honour, more NPCs who treat your Multi-Tool as a personality test. It is also why dissonant planets and Interceptor hunts still pair well with Vy’keen space even when the crashed ship is a Sentinel corpse. Irony is free.
They are not mindless. Vy’keen High Command has internal factions, priests, and criminals. You will meet cowards in Vy’keen armour. Gift them anyway if you need the number. Standing is bureaucratic honour, not a novel.
Gifts and the armourer
Hand over Vy’keen Daggers and Vy’keen Effigies (and the usual related curios). Do not gift Convergence Cubes unless you enjoy lectures. Mission boards in Vy’keen systems dish out hunts, scans, and violence. Pirate kills in their space count. Freighter rescues count. Manufacturing-facility answers that say “fight” often count.
The hireable Armourer at a base is Vy’keen. That NPC is how many saves unlock Plasma Launcher, extra ship weapons, and the classic combat-blueprint chain from base building. If you care about Multi-Tool progress beyond the Anomaly vendor, you will eventually talk to one, even if you live on a Gek farm.
Cabinets in Vy’keen stations are a good place to look for Rifles, Aliens, and other damage-leaning tools. They will also sell you junk with a fierce name. Read the bonuses. A staff still comes from Autophage camps, not from shouting at a Vy’keen merchant.
Ships, combat, and Cosmos
Vy’keen space is not a unique starship table, but it is a fine place to be when you are already fighting. Fighters feel on-theme. Interceptors feel like captured trophies. Corvettes from Voyagers still win Cosmos salvage regardless of which banner hangs in the atrium; see the ship tier list. The Tractor Beam does not care about Hirk. Station directors in Vy’keen stars do.
Online co-op lets a friend land their Corvette in your barracks system and help with contracts. Cross-play and Cross-Save apply. Friends join over the network. If your squad wants Sentinel-pillar chaos, Vy’keen planets will not disappoint. If they want a quiet diplo ranch, take the companions to a kinder biome and come back for daggers later.
Living with the other three
Vy’keen remember Gek crimes and Korvax softness. You can max all three standings on one Traveller. The galaxy does not make you pick a clan at character create. Autophage camps still cloak on Vy’keen soil after They Who Returned; warriors are not always looking down.
Atlas is not a Vy’keen general. Travellers are not a Vy’keen caste. Purple-class stars, gas giants, and water worlds from Worlds Part II belong to Autophage story keys, not to a dagger grind. Do the honour loop because you want missions and Multi-Tools. Do not do it because a plaque promised you the Atlas would salute.
A useful Vy’keen save is a weapon bench with a gift pocket. Carry daggers, hire the Armourer, hunt Interceptors on dissonant rocks, and keep a polite cube stack for the next Korvax system so you do not tank Convergence standing by acting like Hirk in a laboratory. Honour is local. Your expedition roster is not. Warp accordingly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers Travellers search for after Cosmos.
What gifts raise Vy'keen standing?
Vy'keen Daggers and Vy'keen Effigies given to Vy'keen NPCs, plus species missions, pirate hunts in their systems, and honourable monolith choices.
Why do Vy'keen hate Sentinels?
Their saga describes a crusade under Hirk that nearly destroyed the machines before Gek First Spawn actions pulled Sentinels back into galactic life. The war never really ended.
Is the Armourer always Vy'keen?
The hireable base Armourer is a Vy'keen specialist and a main source of combat blueprints. You can hire one even if your base sits in Gek or Korvax space.
Are Vy'keen systems better for Multi-Tools?
They specialise in Multi-Tool flavour and combat missions. You still need to inspect class and supercharged slots. Staffs remain Autophage rewards.
Can I be allied with Vy'keen and Gek at the same time?
Yes. Standing is tracked per species. Gift daggers in Vy'keen stars and relics in Gek stars. Dialogue remembers both.
