No Man's Sky Updates Hub

Cosmos 7.0, Voyagers, and the free-update timeline from 2016 to now.

Updates Hub

Hello Games still ships free named updates for No Man’s Sky. There is no paid expansion pass and no cash shop. If you left after launch in 2016 and came back after Cosmos, the galaxy is a different game: multiplayer, corvettes, orbital bases, and a star system that finally has places to go.

This hub is the map. Use it when a patch drops, when an expedition timer starts, or when you need to know whether a feature is new or just newly useful.

What to read first

  • Cosmos Update — version 7.0, live 9 September 2026. Star system map, space hulks, outposts, orbital bases, ownable stations, alliances, and Expedition 23.
  • Voyagers Update — version 6.0, August 2025. Corvette-class custom ships, walkable interiors, multi-crew, the Corvette Workshop, and Expedition 19.
  • Patch History — the comeback story from the rocky 2016 launch through NEXT, Beyond, Worlds, Remnant, Swarm, and Cosmos.

Official patch copy lives on nomanssky.com/cosmos-update. This wiki translates those notes into play order: what to open in the Quick Menu, what to install on a corvette, and which guides to run after you warp in.

How this wiki treats patches

Named updates are the ones players search for. Hotfixes (7.01 and friends) matter when they change salvage, map markers, or multiplayer loot, but they do not get their own page unless the loop itself changes. When Hello Games ships a new numbered update, we fold it into this hub and keep the three pages above as the current spine.

Facts we treat as stable unless official notes change:

  • The game launched 12 August 2016 and remains free to update on every platform it already supports.
  • Cosmos is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X/S, Switch 1, Switch 2, Mac, PSVR 1 and 2, PC VR, and Game Pass.
  • Cross-play and Cross-Save are in. A station you decorate on PC is the same station a friend visits on a console.
  • Expeditions are time-boxed seasons on a separate save. Rewards copy to your main save when you finish (or when Hello Games opens a redux later).

If you only have an hour after a big patch, do this: warp into a system you have already visited, open the star system map from the Quick Menu, mark a hulk or outpost, and see whether your ship can actually fly the new loop. Then park at a station and check whether you can take directorship or still need standing.

Space after Cosmos vs space after Voyagers

Voyagers made the ship the house. You assembled a corvette, walked the halls, invited a crew, and spacewalked from that hull. Cosmos made the system the house. Asteroid belts, ice fields, inhabited outposts, infested bio-wrecks, debris, hulks, and the star itself sit at fixed points you can mark and revisit. Spacewalking is no longer a corvette-only trick: any ship can eject from the Quick Menu.

Those two patches stack. A Tractor Beam on a corvette plus the Gravitino Coil from Remnant is the salvage kit Cosmos expects. A fighter without a beam can still scan, fight, and land on a large asteroid, but it will not haul hulk chunks as cleanly.

Expeditions tied to these pages

  • Expedition 19: Corvette shipped with Voyagers. It taught the workshop loop and paid out exclusive trails, a Deadeye cannon module, and the Mecha-Mouse companion.
  • Expedition 23: Our Journey Continues ships with Cosmos. It runs about six weeks. Each milestone is one of the 40 named updates, with Sean Murray commentary stored in the Catalogue. Rewards include the Golden Rasamama S36, a vintage Interceptor, the Starbound v0.27 multi-tool, a diplodocus companion, an astronaut bobblehead, framed update art, and titles.

For milestone order, timers, and how to start from the Anomaly terminus, use the expeditions guide. Come back here when you need the patch that unlocked a mechanic the expedition is asking you to use.

What this hub is not

It is not a dump of every hotfix number. It is not a leak page. If a feature is only on the experimental Steam branch, we wait until it is in the public notes. For day-one survival, money, and controls, start at Getting Started and Controls instead of living in patch text.

When you finish a patch page, jump sideways: ship tiers if Cosmos made you rebuild a hangar, units and nanites if hulks and outposts changed your income, or portal glyphs if you are hunting a community address after the expedition.

Keep Patch History open in a second tab if you are a returning player. The names Hello Games uses in Expedition 23 only make sense once you remember what NEXT, Echoes, and Worlds actually added. Then fly the new map — Cosmos is the first time space itself is the destination.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Travellers search for after Cosmos.

When did Cosmos 7.0 release?

Cosmos (update 7.0) went live on 9 September 2026 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, Mac, VR, and Game Pass. Read the Cosmos notes on this wiki and the official page at https://www.nomanssky.com/cosmos-update.

Is Voyagers still worth reading after Cosmos?

Yes. Voyagers 6.0 is the corvette patch. Cosmos assumes you can assemble a hull, install a Tractor Beam, and spacewalk. If you skipped 6.0, start there before you try hulks.

Does No Man's Sky charge for these updates?

No. Hello Games has shipped 40-plus named updates as free patches with no paid DLC and no microtransactions. Buy the game once on a platform you own; patches download like any other title update.

Where should returning players start?

Skim Patch History for the comeback timeline, then play Getting Started on a current save. After you can warp, open the Cosmos page and learn the star system map.

How long is Expedition 23?

Our Journey Continues is scheduled for about six weeks from Hello Games' activation on the Expedition Terminus. Exact end dates live in the in-game timer and the expeditions guide.
