No Man's Sky Tools Hub
Glyphs, portal addresses, and the materials that keep a Traveller flying.
Guides teach a session. This hub is the reference you keep open while the visor is up: which rune is which, how a portal actually charges, and which rocks pay for the next hyperdrive hop. Nothing here is a cheat table. Everything here is the kind of fact you forget between saves.
Two pages sit under this hub:
- Portal Glyphs — all 16 runes, how to unlock them on the Artemis Path or at Traveller graves, how to find a portal at a monolith, how to charge the pad, and how to share a 12-glyph address without the in-game camera eating the UI.
- Resources — the early loop (sodium, oxygen, carbon, ferrite, di-hydrogen, copper, cobalt), chromatic metal, storm crystals, Salvaged Data, Runaway Mould, activated stellar metals, and purple-system lithium and quartzite.
Use them together. A paradise planet a stranger posted is useless if you cannot input the address. An address is useless if you still cannot keep life support filled on the walk from the portal to the ship.
When to open a tool page instead of a guide
Open Getting Started when you do not know what to do in the first hour. Open this hub when you already know the goal and you need a name, cost, or sequence.
Examples:
- You have a Coordinate Exchange screenshot and three missing glyphs. That is the glyphs page, not a story walkthrough.
- You can warp but every planet is toxic and you cannot find copper. That is the resources page, plus the units and nanites guide if the real problem is poverty.
- You want a living ship, a staff, or a corvette part. That is a tier list or a ships guide. Tools will not rank items.
The split keeps this wiki searchable. Patch notes live under Updates. Factions live under Players. Tools stay mechanical.
Portal basics in one paragraph
There are 16 glyphs. A portal address uses 12 of them. You unlock the set by warping during The Purge or by paying 100 nanites at Traveller graves (ask where they came from). You find a portal by answering a monolith correctly, then offering a Gek Relic, Korvax Casing, or Vy’keen Dagger. You charge sixteen slots with common elements, type the address, and walk through. Screenshot with the OS capture key, not Photo Mode, if you plan to post the pad. Full table and etiquette: Portal Glyphs.
Resource basics in one paragraph
The first planet is a sodium and oxygen problem. The first system is a ferrite and carbon problem. The first warp is a copper → chromatic metal problem. After that you hunt Salvaged Data for base parts, storm crystals on extreme worlds, and Runaway Mould for nanite refine. Purple stars (Worlds Part II) add quartzite on the system and lithium on water worlds. Scan with an upgraded visor; the Analysis Visor is the real map. Full loop: Resources.
How these tools changed after Cosmos
Cosmos 7.0 did not replace glyphs. It gave you more reasons to travel: a marked hulk in a friend’s system, an alliance station, an orbital base on a rock in an ice field. Addresses still move people. The star system map moves you inside a system. Use both. A portal dumps you at a pad on a planet; you still need the Quick Menu map to find the belt.
Voyagers changed the cargo side of resources. A corvette with a Tractor Beam hauls hulk chunks that a starter fighter cannot. Early-game sodium does not care. Late-game salvage does. Read resources first, ships second.
Suggested use while playing
- Unlock glyphs while you naturally warp; do not pause a new save to grave-hunt unless you already have a destination.
- Keep a stack of sodium, oxygen, carbon, ferrite, and di-hydrogen in the exosuit, not the ship, so a crash does not strand you.
- Photograph portal pads with Steam, PlayStation Share, Xbox capture, or Win+Print Screen.
- When a Coordinate Exchange post lists a dissonant paradise, check the resources planet types so you know whether “paradise” still has sentinels.
This hub will grow if a future patch adds a new rune set or a new stellar metal. Until then, two pages are enough: one for where, one for what. Bookmark both, then go fly — the Updates Hub will tell you when Hello Games invents a third.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers Travellers search for after Cosmos.
How many portal glyphs are there?
Sixteen. A working address uses twelve glyphs in order. Unlock paths and the name table are on the Portal Glyphs page.
What resources should I gather first?
Sodium, oxygen, carbon, ferrite dust, di-hydrogen, then copper and cobalt. Refine copper into chromatic metal before you worry about storm crystals. See Resources.
Do I need purple-system materials as a beginner?
No. Quartzite and lithium wait until the Atlantid Drive story from Worlds Part II. Finish the early loop and a first warp network first.
Where do I share planet addresses?
Use an unofficial Coordinate Exchange community and screenshot the portal pad with an OS capture. This wiki's Links Hub lists official and unofficial destinations; we are not affiliated with them.
