No Man's Sky Expeditions and Our Journey Continues

How to start from the Anomaly or a New Game tile, copy rewards home, and walk Expedition 23 like a museum — not a speedrun.

No Man's Sky Expeditions

Community expeditions are timed seasonal campaigns, not the freighter fleet missions with a similar name. Each one drops you into a curated slice of the galaxy with milestones, phases, and exclusive rewards. When the timer ends, those rewards stay claimable on other saves through the Anomaly. This page is the practical layer: how to start, how to copy things home, how to not brick the transfer, and what Expedition 23 Our Journey Continues actually is.

If you have never summoned the Space Anomaly, finish the early story in Getting Started. If you want the nostalgia ships in a vacuum, you can start from a New Game tile instead. Either path is valid. Rushing is not.

Two ways to start

New Game tile. From the save select screen, pick the expedition. You get a clean slot with the season’s starting loadout. Everyone is poor together. When you finish, the slot can convert into a Normal save. This is the safe option at a big patch boundary and the right option if you do not want a 400-hour main file touching experimental code.

Anomaly terminus. On an existing Normal save, summon the Space Anomaly and use the Expedition Terminus (near the Nexus and the Quicksilver companion). This branches the expedition off your main file. You can pause, return to the main save, and resume. You can copy the active ship and Multi-Tool in either direction for Nanites, and when you end the expedition you can transfer a limited set of cargo and technology — typically up to eight tech stacks and twenty-four cargo stacks, with extra trips if you shuttle back and forth before you commit to ending.

The terminus is how veterans bring an S-class scanner into a season and how they bring a golden starter ship back out. It is also how people overwrite a favourite Multi-Tool because they copied into a full slot. Check empty ship and tool slots before you press copy.

Cosmetic milestone rewards — titles, decals, companions, the special hulls — are claimed on any save from the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion once you have unlocked them. You do not have to finish the season on the same slot you play daily. You do have to unlock the milestone while the expedition is live.

Expedition 23: Our Journey Continues

Cosmos 7.0 launched on 9 September 2026 with Expedition Twenty-Three, Our Journey Continues. Hello Games said it would begin shortly after 7.0; if the Terminus still shows Swarm, the anniversary tile has not flipped yet. Install Cosmos, then check New Game’s Community Expedition slot and the Anomaly terminus. It runs for about six weeks once live. It is the tenth-anniversary season: a playable museum of roughly forty updates since the 12 August 2016 launch. Each milestone maps to a chapter of that history and unlocks features in the order Hello Games added them. Sean Murray recorded developer commentary for those milestones. Once unlocked, the commentary stays in the Catalogue under Collected Knowledge.

The nostalgia reward list is the reason veterans log in:

  • Golden Rasamama S36, a gold edition of the original starter starship
  • a vintage Interceptor reconstructed from early trailer footage
  • the Starbound v0.27 Multi-Tool from concept-era art
  • a diplodocus companion brought back from pre-release creatures
  • an astronaut bobblehead (cockpit figurine)
  • framed commemorative art, decals, and titles

Treat those as collection prizes. The Golden Rasamama is not a better daily driver than a modded Solar or a Corvette with a tractor beam. The diplodocus is for the companions tier list and for screenshots. The Starbound tool is a trophy; your Multi-Tool ranking still prefers an S-class with scanner modules.

The season ships alongside the Cosmos space overhaul — star system map, hulks, outposts, bio-wrecks, asteroid belts, orbital bases, owned stations, alliances, flying toward the system’s star. Milestones will send you into that toy box in historical order. Let them. That is the joke of the museum: you re-earn Pulse, bases, multiplayer, Living Ships, and Corvettes as if it were 2016 through 2026 again.

Do not rush, and do not ignore the milestone list

Open the expedition log and read all phases before you grind the first checkbox. Later milestones often sit on the way to early ones. If a task says visit a specific system, go there once with a list instead of three times with a memory. If a task says scan fauna, scan while you walk, not as a separate session. If a task says earn Units or Nanites, the units and nanites habits still apply — visor first, wreck-scrap second, mould if you are parked.

Optional community milestones can be claimed from the Quicksilver companion even if you personally skipped the grind, once the community has finished them. Do not end the expedition early if you still want a community tick that has not landed.

Death is a taxi, except in Permadeath. Expeditions usually run on a Normal-like ruleset even if your main save is spicier; read the season’s modifiers. Abandoned-mode mains still start the terminus branch as an expedition, not as an empty-universe clone, unless a season says otherwise.

Copy the ship and tool you care about before you hit End Expedition. Unequip technology you want to transfer into cargo. End, pick the eight-plus-twenty-four, return to the main save, collect from the terminus, repeat if you still have piles. Then walk to the Quicksilver companion and claim the Golden Rasamama, the vintage Interceptor, the Starbound tool, the diplodocus, and the bobblehead on the save you actually play.

Bring a Corvette if the season allows copies and you already built one in Ships and Corvettes. Bring patience if you did not. The workshop still exists inside a season once Voyagers content unlocks on that milestone track.

After the six weeks

When Our Journey Continues closes, you keep the unlocked cosmetics. You do not keep the branched expedition universe unless you converted a New Game slot. The commentary remains in Collected Knowledge. The next season will replace the terminus tile. Hello Games has run this pattern for years; the Updates Hub and patch history are where the next name will show up.

If you bounced off expeditions because an old season felt like a checklist in a desert, this one is the opposite pitch: it is a guided tour of why the game you are playing is not the game that launched. Walk it with the visor up. Bind photo mode from the controls guide and take it into each era. Put the bobblehead on the Corvette dash. Then go back to your main save and spend the Golden Rasamama’s hangar slot on something you will actually fly — or keep the gold brick, because it is funny.

The Guides Hub is the map when the museum closes. Multiplayer covers doing milestones with a crew. Base building is where the framed art hangs. None of those pages will give you the diplodocus. The terminus will, if you do not speedrun past the creature milestone on purpose.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Travellers search for after Cosmos.

How do I start an expedition from my main save?

Summon the Space Anomaly and use the Expedition Terminus next to the Nexus. You can also pick the expedition tile on New Game. Both are covered above. You need the Anomaly unlocked; see Getting Started.

How do rewards get onto my main save?

Cosmetic unlocks are claimed at the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion on any save. Cargo and technology copy through the terminus when you end a branch started from an existing save. Copy ships and Multi-Tools before you end, and leave empty slots so nothing is overwritten.

What is Expedition 23 Our Journey Continues?

The tenth-anniversary season tied to Cosmos 7.0. About six weeks, a museum of forty updates, Sean Murray commentary, and rewards including the Golden Rasamama S36, a vintage Interceptor, the Starbound v0.27 Multi-Tool, a diplodocus companion, and an astronaut bobblehead.

Should I rush the milestones?

No. Read the full list, batch tasks that share a system, and let the historical unlock order teach you. Speedrunning skips the commentary that is the point of this season.

Can I run the expedition in multiplayer?

Yes. Online co-op and Nexus grouping still work. Cross-Play details are on the multiplayer page. A Corvette crew makes the museum walk less lonely.

Is the Golden Rasamama better than a Corvette?

No. It is a nostalgia hull. Use it as a collection piece. Daily flying still belongs to a modded Solar, Interceptor, or Corvette. Rankings: ship tier list.
