No Man's Sky Portal Glyphs and Addresses

Sixteen runes, Traveller graves, monolith portals, and how to post a coordinate.

Portal Glyphs

Portals are the galaxy’s subway. Learn 16 glyphs, type a 12-glyph address, walk through a stone ring, and you are on someone else’s paradise, dissonant interceptor world, or alliance backyard. This page is the practical reference: unlock routes, monolith steps, charging, the name table, and how to share an address without a useless screenshot.

If you still cannot keep life support up, read Resources first. A portal will not save a Traveller who cannot charge the pad.

Two ways to unlock all 16 glyphs

Artemis Path / The Purge. Play the main story through Awakenings, Alone Amidst the Stars, Ghosts in the Machine, A Leap in the Dark, The First Traveller, Patterns in Time, 16/16, and The Purge. During The Purge, each warp to a new system grants one glyph and a strange message. Sixteen warps, sixteen runes, done. You do not need graves if you finish that chain. Glyphs are collection unlocks, not inventory items. They cannot be sold or dropped.

Traveller graves. On space stations (after you have visited the Anomaly) you will see Travellers who do not match the local Gek, Korvax, or Vy’keen. Talk to one and ask where they came from. They mark a grave in that system. Interact with the grave for one glyph. The visor labels these sites as an Unknown Grave. The conversation costs 100 nanites. Repeat across stations until the set is complete. You can stumble on a grave without asking, but that is slower.

Mix the methods. If The Purge is a long way off and a friend already sent an address, buy graves with nanites from the units and nanites loop.

How to find a portal

  1. Find a monolith (ancient ruin marker in the visor, or a planetary chart from a station cartographer).
  2. Answer the riddle correctly. Wrong answers waste the relic and your standing mood.
  3. Offer the matching race relic: Gek Relic, Korvax Casing, or Vy’keen Dagger. The monolith tells you a portal has been located and drops a navigation marker.
  4. Fly to the ring. Approach the correct side so the terminal rises.

Portals exist on dead worlds and in uncharted systems. The Artemis mission A Leap in the Dark teaches activation; you do not need all sixteen glyphs merely to turn a local portal on, but you need the set to type arbitrary addresses.

Charge the pad, then type twelve

The terminal has sixteen charge slots, one per glyph on the wheel. Fill them with common elements before the address will take. The four-element rotation is:

SlotsAccepts
1, 5, 9, 13Carbon, Condensed Carbon, Oxygen
2, 6, 10, 14Sodium, Sodium Nitrate
3, 7, 11, 15Di-hydrogen, Deuterium, Cobalt, Ionised Cobalt, Salt
4, 8, 12, 16Copper, Cadmium, Emeril, Indium, and their Activated forms

Keep a stack of each family in the exosuit. Stellar metals from later resources work in the fourth column; copper is enough on a new save.

After the pad is charged, input twelve glyphs in order. The portal either opens or reports an impossible / edge-of-galaxy address and dumps you somewhere nearby. Walk through. Your ship follows. To leave, use the return portal at the destination or a teleporter if you have built one.

Glyph names (community table)

Players do not recite hex. They recite pictures. Community names (sunset, bird, face…) are the ones Coordinate Exchange posts use. Void Egg / Starbirth names appear in that mission’s flavour text.

#HexCommunity nameVoid Egg name
10sunsetStar Over Water
21birdHunter
32faceReflection
43diploAncient Giant

109galaxySpiral of Reality
11AvoxelAnomaly
12BfishOcean King
13Ctent
14DrocketVessel To Beyond

16Fatlas

Hex 0–F is what some map tools print. If a post says sunset bird face diplo… they mean glyphs 1–4 in that order.

How to share an address

  1. Stand at the portal terminal so all sixteen wheel icons and the twelve you entered are visible.
  2. Capture with the operating system or console share button (Steam overlay, PlayStation Share, Xbox capture, Win+Print Screen). Do not use in-game Photo Mode or the Analysis Visor camera. Those hide the UI.
  3. Paste the screenshot plus galaxy name (Euclid unless you say otherwise) in an unofficial Coordinate Exchange community. See the Links Hub for destinations. This wiki is not affiliated with those groups.
  4. Say what the planet is: paradise, dissonant, gas giant moon, Autophage camp, corvette wreck, Cosmos hulk nearby. A glyph string without a reason is noise.
  5. If you built a base, drop a save beacon by the pad so visitors do not wander into a storm.

Addresses are galaxy-specific. A Euclid code will not land you in Eissentam. First-glyph region rules still apply: the first rune roughly encodes distance from the galaxy centre. You do not need that math to use a friend’s screenshot. You need it if you are trying to author a code from a map tool.

After Cosmos

Portals still drop you on a planet. The new star system map in the Quick Menu is how you then mark a hulk, outpost, or orbital base in that same system. Combine them: portal to a friend’s alliance world, then map-mark the station they own. Voyagers corvettes fit through the same teleporter network once you have visited once.

Keep this page next to Resources and the Tools Hub while you charge a pad in a hurry. Missing oxygen is a more common portal failure than a mistyped diplo. When the ring is lit, step through once, drop a base computer if the world is worth a second visit, and screenshot the pad before you mine the copper you just spent — future-you will want that address again, and Photo Mode will not save it.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Travellers search for after Cosmos.

What is the fastest way to unlock all glyphs?

Finish The Purge on the Artemis Path and warp until all 16 drop. If you need them sooner, pay 100 nanites per Traveller grave after asking where they came from.

How do I get a portal marker?

Solve a monolith riddle correctly, then offer a Gek Relic, Korvax Casing, or Vy'keen Dagger. The monolith marks the portal on that planet.

Why will the portal not accept my address?

Charge all 16 slots first, then enter 12 glyphs you actually own. Impossible or rim addresses error out. Also confirm you are in the same galaxy the poster named.

Should I screenshot with Photo Mode?

No. Photo Mode hides the glyph UI. Use Steam overlay, console share, or the OS capture key while the portal terminal is open.

Where do people post coordinates?

Unofficial Coordinate Exchange communities (Reddit and Discord groups). The Links Hub lists official Hello Games sites and community destinations. This fan wiki is not affiliated with them.

Do I need every glyph to use a portal at all?

No. Artemis teaches activation earlier. You need the full set to type arbitrary 12-glyph addresses from other Travellers.
